VSL Synchron Solo Violin 2 (Sordino)

Solo Violin Virtual Instrument

The Muted Second Voice

Muting the violin does more than tame its brilliance - it invites a different approach, drawing out a warmer, silkier tone.

As the second voice of the muted string quartet, Synchron Solo Violin 2 (sordino) brings its own color and character to the ensemble.

The instrument was performed by Damir Oraščanin, concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra, in the large Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage.

Features

  • Solo violin played with a mute
  • Natural flow of captivating performances
  • Same vast arsenal of expressive articulations as Synchron Solo Violin 2
  • Captured on Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage
  • 11 microphone positions
  • Several positions on stage (center, solo, 2nd chair)
  • Perfectly mixed with production-ready presets

A Contrasting Voice, Now Muted

Just as in the original Synchron Solo Strings, Synchron Solo Violin 2 (sordino) is performed by a different artist on a different instrument than Solo Violin 1 - bringing a contrasting tone and feel that makes the muted quartet come alive in dialog and layered expression.

Damir Oraščanin has served as concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra since 2020.

Born in Belgrade, he studied in his hometown and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the Vienna Musikverein, and holds positions with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Volksoper.

With the mute in place, his playing reveals a softer, more refined side of the second violin, without losing any of its individual personality.

A Complete Muted Palette

The sampling sessions covered essentially the same comprehensive set of articulations as the original Synchron Solo Violin 1, but every note was recorded with the mute in place.

Short notes include various spiccatos, staccatos, détachés, ricochet, and saltando.

Long notes come with different attacks, releases, and slides.

Legato variants include normal, agile, slurred, portamento, and zigane.

Sforzatos, tremolos, trills, harmonics, and pizzicatos round out the palette.

The Crossfade Editor in the Synchron Player allows for seamless blending between articulations, letting composers shape transitions with the same precision and musicality the original collection is known for - only this time, in a softer, more intimate light.

The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

You can download the latest installers from the iLok website: ilok.com/#!home

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).

Crossgrade Proof

This crossgrade is for owners of a competing DAW. To prove your DAW ownership, we require that you upload proof in the form of an image/PDF.

Types of proof

A copy of your purchase receipt for the original license or the most recent update/upgrade

A screenshot of your product registration

A photo of your package (either CD/DVD or printed manual), with the unique serial number included in the photo.
