VSL Studio Alto Flute
Flute Virtual Instrument
Side-Blown
The side-blown alto flute is a transposing instrument that extends the flutes' lower tonal range.
The instrument was recorded in the relatively dry and controlled environment of our second studio, the Silent Stage, and offers all common articulations.
Features
- Alto flute in G
- Recorded at Silent Stage
- Short and long notes, legato, dynamics, flutter tongue, trills
- Mixer Presets for authentic placement at Synchron Stage Vienna
- Switch off internal reverb for placement in any virtual acoustic environment
Two of a Kind
There are two types of alto flute: the straight shape and that with a curved headpiece.
A straight-headed model was used for the recordings.
The alto flute has a full, warm sound suggesting mystery, especially in the lower range.
Sturdy Build
Early transverse or side-blown flutes were made of wood and had no keys.
The modern flute is made of metal, and its large holes are covered by keys, which increases the player’s possibilities significantly.
Modern compositions for the alto flute include pieces by Kaija Saariaho, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Toru Takemitsu.
Sampling
The library features a full set of articulations, offering various short and long notes, legato (including fast legatos that let you play trills), crescendos and diminuendos, sfz, sffz, pfp, flutter tongue, and half and whole tone trills.
Recording the samples relatively dry at the Silent Stage makes it possible to place them on your virtual stage and in the stereo field wherever you like, but also enables you to integrate them with our Synchron Series by using the internal convolution reverb of our very own Synchron Stage Vienna.
