The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).

The Big Bang Orchestra (BBO) from VSL is a library consisting of an orchestra playing all together, aka "Tutti".

The first tier of VSL's Big Bang Orchestra is completely free (and remains so) and contains very basic articulations with limited tonal flexibility.

BBO: Andromeda gives you all the articulations of the free Big Bang Orchestra, newly and uniquely recorded with more sonic and expressive flexibility, along with many more articulations that were not included in the free version.

Tonal Flexibility

To give you more freedom to modify your overall orchestra sound, the close mic positions of low strings, high strings, woodwinds, horns, trumpets, and low brass can be adjusted separately in the integrated mixer of the Synchron Player.

For the fortissimo low brass section, you can choose between an aggressive, bold sound and a softer, rounder tone.

For more expedient orchestration, you can simply add or remove the high piccolo.

Depending on your arrangement, you may choose whether or not to include its penetrating tone commonly used in tutti arrangements.

More Articulations

The short notes of BBO: Andromeda are even shorter than the ones included with the free version, with a very precise attack.

This patch also includes optimized repetition notes that deliver extremely authentic results when playing repeated notes quickly.

The long notes offer a variety of articulations, including espressivo, soft, sfz and sffz.

The sforzatissimo patch reveals the especially awe-inspiring force of a large orchestra when every musician is playing on top of their lungs.

The "Dynamics" category includes two different lengths of crescendos.

Vienna's new Release Sample Technology adds the correct sound even when the crescendos are played shorter.

Special articulations such as tremolos, flutter tongue, minor and major trills as well as half-tone glissandos round out the articulations of Big Bang Orchestra: Andromeda.

Free Con Sordino Expansion Set

This Bonus Pack with beautifully enigmatic and gentle tutti performances is available for all registered users of Big Bang Orchestra: Andromeda.

It includes all the basic articulations, played very softly by the entire orchestra, in the range from pianississimo to mezzopiano

All string and brass ensembles play con sordino (muted), while the woodwind ensemble consists of different instruments to avoid the higher registers that would stand out from the ensemble.

It includes two alto flutes, one bass flute, two English horns, one heckelphone, two bass clarinets, one contrabass clarinet, two bassoons, and one contrabassoon.
