Spitfire Audio Spitfire Studio Woodwinds

Ensemble Woodwinds Library for Kontakt Player

Your Creativity, Your Control

Spitfire Studio Woodwinds is the third and final release in our vital Spitfire Studio Orchestra range.

Spitfire's ambition was to create an incredibly versatile pro-end dry stage sample library, and by choosing the crisp and vibrant setting of AIR Studio One - a smaller, more controllable space than the opulent Lyndhurst Hall - Spitfire offer fellow composers a woodwind library that captures every grain in depth and detail.

As with our other Studio libraries, we offer you a wide range of instruments from the section - from the guttural depths of the bassoon to the gleaming sounds of the piccolo.

With solo or section performances, choose from an abundant range of articulations, and realise the detail of your music with rips, key noise FX, swells, and sforzandi.

Boasting the widest emotional range of performance in pin-sharp detail, Spitfire Studio Woodwinds will breathe new life in to your orchestra.

The Final Chapter

Two years in the making, Studio Woodwinds is the third section of our new Studio orchestral libraries.

It has all the treasured Spitfire hallmarks: A-list London session players, the best instruments and an unparalleled signal path recorded to tape by Grammy award-winning engineer Simon Rhodes - in a room perfectly suited to capturing the granular detail and velvet sonority of the woodwind family.

As with Spitfire's existing symphonic and chamber libraries, they have applied a "no stone unturned" approach: an encyclopaedia of articulations, dynamic layers and round-robins for seamless, nuanced realism.

Studio Woodwinds is available in two versions: Spitfire Studio Woodwinds and Spitfire Studio Woodwinds Professional.

Spitfire Studio Woodwinds takes you straight to the section's roots for instant results: 143 articulations across 11 instruments, including 7 solo - all recorded to a Decca tree rig featuring Schoeps microphones.

This peerless detail and control extends to the articulations, which fulfil all the traditional requirements, but include extended techniques such as Multitongue, Air and Key FX, staccatissimo and swells.

Instantly usable, and immediately musical, whatever stage you are at.

Spitfire Studio Woodwinds Professional offers you all of this, plus extra instruments and our full range of mic positions.

Spitfire users now have a comprehensive range of orchestral manoeuvres.

We believe Studio Woodwinds suits users of our existing Lyndhurst Hall ranges as an essential sonic alternative, suitable for the widest range of musical settings and ready for your own favourite reverbs and FX.

With the versatility we have engineered into this library, we have no doubt that Spitfire Studio Woodwinds will be a cherished part of your music-making over the next decade.

Recorded by Simon Rhodes

Simon Rhodes was an obvious choice for our entirely new Studio Orchestra range  -  a microphone magician with multiple Grammy awards to his name, and a senior engineer at Abbey Road Studios.

Simon has worked at the highest level in film so score recording, having been James Horner's go-to engineer for 18 years.

Blockbustermovies such as Avatar, Skyfall and Spectre have also had the Rhodes treatment.

"For the Spitfire Studio Woodwinds sessions, the approach echoes what we did with the Studio Strings and Brass, so there is complete consistency between the libraries. The main Schoeps mics were the same, and I captured two flavours of spots."

For more mic positions and two curated mixes, check out the Professional edition of the library.

The Overview Panel

This is the main interface for melodic instruments.

Its default view displays all available playing techniques, has a simple microphone mixer and includes the main feature controllers.

General Controls Panel

This view allows further in-depth control of the instrument, showing all available signals and feature controllers, as well as the ability to purge techniques from memory to reduce system usage.

The Ostinatum

In this view you can add notes to a pattern sequencer, select which key it triggers on and then play for instant ostinato creation.

It's like an arpeggiator on a synthesizer.

The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

You can download the latest installers from the iLok website: ilok.com/#!home

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).

Crossgrade Proof

This crossgrade is for owners of a competing DAW. To prove your DAW ownership, we require that you upload proof in the form of an image/PDF.

Types of proof

A copy of your purchase receipt for the original license or the most recent update/upgrade

A screenshot of your product registration

A photo of your package (either CD/DVD or printed manual), with the unique serial number included in the photo.
