The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).

Dopamine: The New Way to Enhance Your Tracks

Overloud DOPAMINE is the emulation of two classic tape encoding processors, used as enhancers.

It is designed to revive individual tracks as well as complex mixes while preserving their natural tone. Overloud DOPAMINE does not introduce unpleasant artifacts like exciters do: in fact, it dynamically balances the harmonics that naturally exist in the original audio rather than generating non-existent harmonics by synthesizing them.

How does it work?

Overloud DOPAMINE is a particular kind of enhancer used in early forms of magnetic tapes noise reduction. The tape was encoded by dynamically brightening the signal then while playing back, the tape was decoded by taking off the extra brightness and, consequently, reducing the tape hiss.

The audio engineers realized that the tape encoding process was a desirable effect on many kinds of audio so they started to use this process in parallel with the original tracks to add liveliness. Overloud DOPAMINE replicates this process.

Sidechain Filter

You can tweak a Low Cut filter on the Sidechain to reduce the compressor sensitivity to low frequencies. This is particularly useful to control the amount of "pumping" effect, for program audio with a lot of pulsating bass frequencies.

Dopamine is available as Audio Unit, VST, AAX32 (ProTools 10.3.5 and above), AAX64 (ProTools 11 and 12) plugins, as well as a standalone application.

Both 32bit and 64bit are natively supported.

You can authorize Dopamine on up to three computers that you own and one USB stick with a simple one-click software procedure (no hardware key needed).
