Musical Sampling Atelier Series: Austin Bundle
Saxophone & Trumpet Virtual Instruments for Kontakt Full
This bundle includes:
- Austin Saxes
- Sasaki Trumpet
The Austin Bundle is a collection of meticulously-crafted legato trumpet and saxophone instruments for jazz, pop and cinematic contexts.
Both libraries were recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, TX and performed by Mikio Sasaki (trumpet) and Colin Houlihan (saxes).
The energetic, performance-sourced style of sampling was fully fleshed out over the course of several grey hair-inducing months of nonstop work.
What you end up with is a selection of responsive legato patches that not only work great on their own, but were also designed to effectively complement each other.
Austin Saxes
A true legato saxophone library performed by session player and educator, Colin Houlihan.
Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, TX - the goal with this release was to create a true workhorse full saxophone library that could accomplish a variety of musical tasks with vibe and ease. Just play your parts in and ride the mod wheel!
Vibrato is a crucial characteristic. Just like Sasaki Trumpet, Musical Samling captured the natural, progressive vibrato found in Colin's performances to keep things as musical and credible as possible. They also provided both Natural (untuned) and Tuned variations of our patches - the former retaining natural pitch biases up the range of the instrument.
Austin Saxes includes two playing styles. The Workhorse patches cater to upbeat, energetic contexts. Great for jazz, rock, and pop genres. The Emotional patches were recorded soft with a more subtle, emotive vibrato for delicate and expressive passages.
Sasaki Trumpet
A legato trumpet library performed by session musician and educator, Mikio (Miki) Sasaki.
Also recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, Texas - the goal was to create a responsive/snappy instrument full of energy, vibe and utility. One decision Musical Sampling made to help facilitate this goal was to record all of the material in a dry studio space. This way you have the option to really customize the sound before hitting it with your favorite reverb.
Part of the character of a trumpet performance is attributed to the style and quality of vibrato. Miki was asked to perform vibrato that could suit a variety of energetic contexts appropriately for each setup. The legato was recorded in an "impulsive" fashion to capture transitions that are more contextually-relevant; suited for energetic lines with real movement.
Wind instruments (certainly brass) tend to share changes in intonation depending on dynamics, range and difficulty of a passage. Musical Sampling has provided two variations of each patch to give composers the option to include performances with their natural, internal tuning intact.
Lastly, we also recorded a wonderfully-emotive flugelhorn with an entirely different legato performance style and vibrato; suited for emotional and cinematic contexts. A real beaut.
