MNTRA Onde
Ondes Martenot Virtual Instrument
The Soul of the Ondes Martenot, Reimagined
Onde reimagines the legendary Onde Martenot by playing performances through live resonating gongs and custom amps captured at extreme ultrasonic resolution - unlocking harmonic dimensions, textures, and expressive possibilities unattainable in conventional synthesis.
Developed by Bigano (Vincent Gagnon & Fabien Noel) - multi-award winning video game sound designers - in collaboration with MNTRA and performed by virtuoso Daniel Áñez, Onde continues the exploration of physical synthesis where acoustic resonance fuses with advanced sampling techniques.
Decades of interactive audio expertise infuse every preset with SSM (Sample Start Modulation) and non-linear reactivity, transforming each note into an expressive gateway where every gesture reshapes texture, timbre, and spatial depth in real time.
This is sound design as alchemy: alive, tactile, and deeply human.

Six Expressive Sound Families
- Chords - Harmonic waves with analog warmth and evolving tone
- Drones - Immersive ambient layers that breathe and shimmer
- Glissando - Fluid, emotional motion inspired by the Martenot's ribbon
- Gongs - Resonant metallic tones that bloom and fade like struck air
- Noise - Textural, living grit - electricity made tactile
- Experimental - Modern evolutions and expressive hybrids for sonic explorers
Patches
Hybrid
- Cymbal: Short, rounded note played through a physical resonator around a cymbal. Clear attack with a sustained release.
- Drone Cymbals: Long and soft sustained notes with a minimal pitch movement and with a very gradual attack. Sound rich in harmonics.
- Gliss Down Cymbal: Fast glissando down, with a gradual attack, defined envelope and a long sustain and resonance.
- Gliss Up Cymbal: Fast up glissandi played through a 18" cymbal resonator creating a textured sound.
Pad
- Drone: Very long drone with slow changes in volume and pitch. This sound has an extremely slow attack and a changing sustain.
- Gliss Down Up Down: Slow and eerie glissandi going down, up and down again.
- Gliss Shaky Down Fast Vibrato AdLibitum: Fast falling glissandi with a wide and random vibrato creating the illusion of separate notes.
- Gliss Shaky Down Up Big Vibrato AdLibitum: Fast falling and rising glissandi with wide and random vibrato creating the illusion of almost having separate notes.
- Gliss Shaky Up Down Big Vibrato AdLibitum: Fast rising and falling glissandi with wide and random vibrato creating the illusion of almost having separate notes.
- Gliss Shaky Up Down Vibrato AdLibitum: Fast rising and falling glissandi with wide and random vibrato creating the illusion of almost having separate notes. Played through an 18" cymbal resonator.
- Gliss Up Down Up: Slow and eerie glissandi going up, down, then up again.
- Pulses: A long note with grainy texture with a constant pitch and a sound full of harmonics.
- Shepard Down: Short glissando going down. Comes from the auditory illusion of an eternally falling tone produced by octave-separated tones.
- Shepard Up: Short glissando going up. Comes from the auditory illusion of an eternally rising tone produced by octave-separated tones.
Pitched Percussion
- Noise Hit: Medium-length note produced using the instrument's noise generator.
- Noise Reverse Hit: Short notes using the instrument's noise generator with a slow attack and a growing dynamic.
- Pizzicato Note: A short pizzicato note, simple, using the default signal generator as a source and with its natural sustain and resonance.
-
Pizzicato Note Noise: A short pizzicato note layered with the noise generator as a source in the instrument, with a very snappy and clear attack. Produced by a Canadian-made wooden and compact instrument.
