The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

You can download the latest installers from the iLok website: ilok.com/#!home

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).

Borealis is a dynamic reverb plugin designed for the studio, stage, and beyond.

It transcends conventional reverb plugins by allowing you to create an interplay between your dry input and its wet output, using its envelope follower and unique modulation possibilities.

Borealis allows you to manipulate a myriad of parameters simultaneously for expressive results with a user-friendly animated interface with 3-axes macro controls.

Borealis offers an array of 14 unique reverb algorithms, from lush convolution reverbs sampled from epic spaces to shimmering algorithmic reverbs and vintage diffused delays.

The plugin's extensive modulation capabilities, including complex non-linear modulators and a deep envelope follower, enable access to highly responsive and organic results.

We have also included a mastering section in BOREALIS that allows you to shape both dry and wet signals, fine-tune your sound and makes it an essential tool to inspire and transform your musical creative process.

14 Inspiring Algorithms

Inspired by the boundary-pushing world of guitar pedals and Eurorack effects, Borealis offers a wide variety of inspiring time-based effects through its 14 algorithms, including multi-dimensional convolution reverbs sampled in epic and unusual spaces from a lush church to the inside of a piano, shimmering reactive algorithmic reverbs that go to infinity, and vintage modulated delay networks.

  • Cavern - Dark and dreamy reflections with arrhythmic echoes
  • Driven - Multiband space with adjustable (tasty) grit
  • Freeze - Lush and modulated with freeze and shimmer capabilities
  • Echo Hall - Shifting rooms with syncable delay
  • Endless - Massive cosmic reflections for vast sonic explorations
  • Granular - Ambient experimental reverb with pre and post grains
  • Orbital - Vintage lush chorused bliss
  • Ping Pong - Diffused ping pong echoes
  • Studio - Magical resonances from the RCA Victor Studio Recording Hall in Montreal
  • Silo - Deep metallic sonority
  • Piano - Warm sympathetic resonances from within a piano soundboard
  • Sanctuary - Bright modulating reflections from an imaginary inner sanctum
  • Spring - Timeless resonance from the classic 2600 reverb tank
  • Church - Beautiful timbres from the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church in Montreal

Sonic Transformations

BOREALIS stands apart from conventional reverbs by dynamically responding to your playing, fostering an inspiring dialogue between input and output.

The plugin features a user-friendly interface with the X, Y & Z Perform Animations as its main control screen, allowing you to focus on what you're hearing.

But for the tweakers, under the surface a playground of deep and intricate control lets you build your dream performance effect.

Dynamically Morphing Rooms

Borealis's modulation capabilities are extensive, featuring three modulators and an envelope follower.

The modulators, including Sine, Triangle, Square, Random, Stepped and custom-drawn shapes, allow you to create intricate movement.

The envelope follower derives control signals from your input, allowing for responsive performances with adjustable attack, release, gain, and threshold settings.

Like a living, breathing organism, Borealis empowers you to go deeper, allowing you to modulate modulators with each other and with the envelope follower, creating a network of performable sound.

Mastering-Grade Limiter and EQ

As the cherry on top, BOREALIS also includes a powerful mastering section with a parametric equalizer and dual-mode modern and vintage-flavored limiter. The Modern limiter offers transparent IIR look-ahead limiting, while the Vintage limiter emulates the classic 1176 Peak Limiter. This section lets you shape and ‘glue’ both dry and wet signals, perfecting your overall sound. With BOREALIS, we created a playground to inspire and enhance your creative process and transform your approach to reverb design with its expansive sound, advanced modulators, and inspiring control interface.
