KIT Plugins NP A67
Analog-Modeled Tube Mixer/Preamp Plugin
This Isn't Emulation, It's Preservation
NP A67 faithfully recreates the unique sonic character of a custom‑modified Altec 1567A tube mixer/preamp unit used at Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, NM - infamous for shaping the "Clovis Sound" heard on iconic recordings of the era's by Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and more.
NP A67 is a carefully designed homage to Norman Petty's sonic legacy.
It combines authentic tube-driven tone with enhanced mid-band control in a streamlined plugin workflow.
From vocals and drums to guitars and full mixes, NP A67 delivers vintage character with modern flexibility, making it easy to shape the rich warmth that defined entire eras of recorded sound.
Norman's Altec 1567A
The first plugin in the Norman Petty Collection is Norman's custom modded Altec 1567A.
This component was part of a larger mixing console used by Norman in the late 1950's to record countless artists.
It features the smooth, silky saturation found on many fifties vocal tracks - with the ability to drive saturation in a specific frequency band or engage high-pass or low-pass filters.
A Lost Collection of Rock History
For over sixty years, Norman Petty's personal studio sat untouched.
Home to his work with Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and a host of other rock pioneers, this unique space in Clovis, New Mexico was eventually abandoned when Petty moved to a larger building.
Now, thanks to our industry-leading intensive modeling process, you can get the unique harmonic saturation of his custom modded gear in your DAW.
Features
- Tube Saturation & Drive - Input controls emulate tube distortion when pushed toward 0 dB, mirroring the natural compression of the original mixers
- Analog Texture - Optional hum recreates generator noise from vintage components
-
EQ Additions - While the Bass and Treble mimic vintage tone stacks, the Mid-Peaking Band is a modern tweak - introduced to augment tonal shaping without deviating from the original's character.
Flexible Filters - HP (High-Pass) and LP (Low-Pass) Filters, based on a customized Pultec-style circuit with resonant peak, provide studio‑grade control to focus or tame frequencies - Input and Output Trims (+/-36dB) - Gain-stage in and out of the plugin.
- Input Gain (inf → 0 dB) - Drives the tube stage; nearing 0 dB adds distortion/saturation
- Mix - Parallel wet/dry blending for subtle to full processing balance control
- Output Gain (0 dB → inf) - Post‑gain attenuation
- Bass EQ (0–10) - Emulates lows of vintage tube tone
- Mid-Peaking EQ Band (–12 to +12 dB @ 200 Hz–2.5 kHz) - Provides extended equalization control (not on the original units)
- Treble EQ (0–10) - Adds high-end sheen
- High‑Pass Filter - Off, or 20 Hz–1 kHz cutoff
- Low‑Pass Filter - 4 kHz–20 kHz, or Off
- Analog Hum (Off, 1, 2, 3) - Adds subtle tube-aged hiss
