DrumX represents a unique collaboration between one of the most successful hitmakers in music history and one of the industry's leading developers of music production software.

By combining Jimmy Jam’s legendary groove sensibility with EastWest's award-winning sound design, DrumX delivers a new approach to beat creation - one that focuses on the element that makes records unforgettable: the groove.

EastWest teamed up with Anthony Marinelli, synth mastermind behind Michael Jackson's Thriller, to make sure everything in Iconic sounded true to the original productions of the world’s mega hits.

Sampling rare vintage synthesizers like the ARP 2600, Minimoog Model D, Oberheim OB-X, Sequential Prophet 5, Yamaha CS-80 and the Synclavier II, EastWest has skillfully recreated some of the most iconic sounds in music history and turned them into modern virtual instruments.

Iconic's user interface centers around an FX Pad with 4 selectable Macro Effects that modulate multiple parameters simultaneously.

Blending a vintage knob-per-function design, with sleek modern styling, all of Iconic’s controls are easily accessible in a single page.

Shape these Iconic synth sounds from the dual filters that can be modulated, an advanced 16-step arpeggiator, multi-mode portamento (glide), and a bevy of effects to widen, pulse, distort, delay, and spatialize the final sound.

While Iconic features synths and sounds used in classic songs that have sold hundreds of millions of copies, it's not stuck in any one time period.

After recording these rare synthesizers in historic EastWest Studio 1, the producers also sent the sounds to analog tape machines (including a tube Studer J37) and pushed them to levels to create tape saturation and harmonic distortion for an alternative modern sound.

The instruments were also re-amped in EastWest Studio 2, using multiple mic positions so the studio sound could be added to the direct sounds, a technique that was often used by Thriller recording and mixing engineer Bruce Swedien.

The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).
