AIR Fabric Vintage Matrix

Synthesizer Virtual Instrument

Matrix Modulation, Movement, and More

A defining, genre-spanning era of analog synthesis encapsulated in one 12-voice polysynth.

Fabric Vintage Matrix honors the iconic 1980s subtractive synthesizer's design, bringing its depth and flexibility into your current workflow.

Fabric Vintage Matrix is a playable, modern take on classic Matrix-style modulation, designed to capture the depth, complexity, and evolving character of the original 1980s hardware polysynth it honors.

Get inspired with sounds that'll take you on a decades-long journey throughout the pop, rock, R&B, and electronic hits of the '80s, '90s, and today.

Known for lush pads, sophisticated textures, and endlessly expressive modulation, this synthesizer quickly became a sought-after addition to any professional studio.

Fabric Vintage Matrix brings together a deep level of layering with modern effects and performance-focused controls, giving you evolving sounds and immediate movement without the need to build a patch from scratch.

Shape immersive pads, build atmospheric layers, and add subtle or dramatic motion into your productions with ease.

With an intuitive interface and a streamlined workflow powered by the AIR Fabric engine, Fabric Vintage Matrix makes it easy to experiment with unique, developing textures and sounds without slowing down your creative process.

Like its hardware form, this synth is perfect for rock and electronic music, film scoring, ambient production, and advanced sound design.

The Sounds of Your Favorite Synthesizer

Fabric Vintage Matrix is powered by the Fabric sound engine, an advanced multi-sample synthesis platform that delivers a consistent UI and modulation architecture, with the following features that make it familiar and flexible for all AIR instrument users.

  • Two multi-sample layer oscillators plus one percussive layer
  • Independent filter, envelope, and LFO controls per layer
  • Deep sound design tools for editing presets or building patches from scratch

Intuitive Front Panel Design

Designed for modern production workflows, the stylized front panel page of Fabric Vintage Matrix offers eight macro controls, four oscillator toggles, and five FX module toggles.

This layout puts essential sound-shaping tools right at your fingertips.

Powerful Dual Main Oscillators

Two main oscillators offer categorized selectors, volume, pan, and formant controls, plus octave, coarse, and fine tuning.

Pitch randomization and drift bring analog warmth, while sample start offset adds sonic variety.

Each oscillator features a dedicated BPM-syncable LFO with eight wave shapes, plus rate, fade-in, depth, and multiple modulation destinations.

Dedicated Noise Generator

Shape noise with volume, pan, filter, decay, and release offset controls. Its dedicated BPM-syncable LFO enables rhythmic modulation, perfect for adding grit or movement to your sound.

Detailed Amp and Filter Envelopes

Dedicated ADSR amp and filter envelopes include velocity sensitivity and velocity-to-attack time mapping.

The filter envelope features bipolar depth control for creative modulation.

The instrument also has a dedicated ADSR pitch envelope.

Dynamic Arpeggiator

Add rhythmic complexity to your sound with multiple arpeggiator shapes, note order and max note options, swing, and advanced timing controls.

Features like momentary arp freeze, repeat, ratchet, octave randomization, and pause make for an organic sound-sculpting experience with each session.

The arpeggiator is MPE compatible and supports assignable modulation sources.

Presets That Inspire

Explore and experiment with an extensive library of sounds.

Fabric Vintage Matrix comes packed with studio-quality presets covering basses, pads, leads, sequences, and cinematic textures.

Unified Synth Edit Page

All classic synths in the Fabric Vintage Synths Collection share a common GUI/TUI layout to provide a consistent and familiar user experience.

Dive deep into sound design with access to every parameter across oscillators, modulation, envelopes, and effects.

Flexible Sub Oscillator

Add body and character to your mixes with Fabric's virtual analog Sub Oscillator offering four selectable wave shapes, volume and pan control, and filter with decay and release offset. It also includes pitch drift, pan key-tracking, and a dedicated BPM-syncable LFO for evolving textures.

Global LFO for Complex Modulation

A global LFO with eight different LFO shapes and BPM sync allows you to modulate multiple parameters simultaneously.

Adjustable rate, fade-in, and depth controls give you more control over modulation intensity and timing.

Comprehensive FX Suite

Fabric Vintage Matrix has a fixed FX section that includes five modules with mix controls. The distortion section offers 12 models with depth, filtering, smoothing, and two modulation sources.

The delay features BPM-syncable modes (single, dual, cross) with extensive feedback options and a feedback LFO.

The reverb section includes 12 models, 16 early reflection models, and controls for pre-delay, time, damp, plus EQ and compression.

Expression and Expansion

Fabric Vintage Matrix is MPE compatible.

It also is equipped with assignable mod wheel, aftertouch, expression, and footswitch controls that allow for seamless compatibility with MIDI controllers and other external gear.
